As a part of AMP speaker series, we invited Bloomberg in house experts Paras Doshi and Peter Sheppard. As the semester is half way through it was good time for the students to know what are the useful functionalities available in Bloomberg that allows students to manage their portfolio. We had an advance level session on new functions introduced by Bloomberg and how can students make a good use of it for their class and in their future career positions. The session was ended with thank you note for both incredible gentlemen who addressed the UMass crowd at a short period notice. Students were also given some career advices for opportunities at Bloomberg.
Last Friday both graduate and undergraduate student managed funds students visited State Street trading floor. It was a great experience for the students and they were pleased with the visit. We had a briefing session with Nicholas Bonn President of State Street Global Markets, the topics varied from discussion on State Street diverse divisions to his journey to current position. Then the students got a chance to tour the actual trading floor Itself where transactions worth billions were running live. As is was a Friday evening, market was pretty slow which gave us the opportunity to talk with Wealth management department, security lending department and also money market department trading managers. The host were very friendly and even gave the students suggestion on what are the Ideal qualities for a trader. Finally, we end our trip at state street and spent the rest of evening at local restaurant.
